Customer Reviews. I bought 2 of these drives to use in a HyperV 1U server for virtualization in a lab.
The previous 1TB drives were more than I needed in capacity & were too slow.
Several items: you'll need a tray of some sort if you wish to use this drive in a server as it's a notebook form factor. Several are available such as SILVERSTONE SDP08 or similar.
It's thin, runs cool and crazy - fast.
Windows 7 virtual machines boot in 15-20 seconds now instead of 2 minutes. I've been testing the system for a month and have noted no negatives. These VMs are in heavy use.
I've used SSDs for hypervisors, netbooks and notebooks and these are the fastest yet.
SSDs have had issues with too many read/write operations over specific physical memory locations burning out the circuits, supposedly that has been fixed. Only time will tell if the issues are fixed in these latest generations. A virtual machine almost guarantees operations will be performed in the same logical / physical address, so this is a worst-case test. So far, so good. No errors, and the boot times are phenomenally fast.
In my opinion the 256GB drives are the best combination of price - performance and highly recommended.

SanDisk Extreme SSD 240 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SDSSDX-240G-G25
I bought two of the 480GB SSDs configured in RAID 0 on a new Thinkpad W530 (SATA III). The performance of each drive (around 500MB/s) did not lose any to overhead when I striped two. Various benchmark programs came out at 980MB/s to over 1GB/s on read, and write ranged wildly from 500Gb/s to over 1GB/s depending on which program.
Real life running heavy I/O operations, such as copying a 35GB 1080P video, is insanely fast! Both drives in one laptop are very quiet - quieter than rest of the machine.
After running for few hours, I turned the machine off and took both SSDs out. They are warm to the touch, but not hot at all.
So far these drives are living up to its advertised performance, at a very attractive price.
I have always wanted to have a real fast computer. Ever since Windows was introduced that seemed an impossible task. With the arrival of SSD that started to look promising again. I bought a Corsair 120 GB about a year ago with the expectation of getting a substantial increase but that didn't happen. So I decided it was time to build a new computer. I ordered 2 X 240 GB SANDISK and today I finished installing them and tested the speed with CrystalDiskMark and the results were great. 1030 MB/sec reads and 575 MB/sec writes. In my previous computer I could open Adobe Photoshop in 37 secs and with the new one I am ready to work in about 1.5 seconds. It's a great improvement and just what I expected. I will do some game testing later. So I am very happy with this purchase and I am sure the SSD technology is going to continue improving and it will get faster and faster. For right now November 2012 I am happy with these results. My OS is Windows 7 Professional with 8 GB of RAM

Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2
This was easy to install, it did speed things up regarding start up, but not as much as I expected, but not sure if I have everything set correctly, I am a casual user. Where I did notice super speed was using DVD FAB, a ripping software. Before I would get a rate of 160-180 FPS, now I am getting 384 FPS, fantastic. My i7 processor used to never go above 20% on the CPU meter, now it screams, I even hear the CPU fan meaning it is finally being given enough info to actually do some quick work.
I would buy this again!
I was running a SATA 3 7200 RPM Barracuda drive. I installed this M4 Drive into an ICY DOCK 2.5 to 3.5 Converter box pn: MB882SP-1S-2B so that I could use my hot swap drive bay on my desktop. Now that I have installed the Crucial M4 SSD drive, when I run the Passmark Performance 7.0 benchmark, this drive is about 4 or 5 times faster in all categories. My desktop boots up and shuts down much quicker, and programs launch very fast. I found a forum online with instructions to turn off prefetch and superfetch in the registry for Windows 7 as this should be disabled for this drive, as it is not needed. These are the drives of the future. I would have preferred to have a 3.5 size drive to begin with, but the ICY DOCK Converter works fine. The only downside to SSD drives are the price, but this one is the most affordable I could find in this size.
